Warrick Dunn Charities, Inc. is a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., The mission of Warrick Dunn Charities (WDC) is to improve lives through innovative programming inspired by our founders life journey.
Since 1997, Homes for the Holidays (HFTH) has rewarded 123 single parents and 334 children and dependents across the country including: Atlanta, Ga., Baltimore, Md., Baton Rouge, La., Dallas, Tx., Jacksonville, Fla., New Orleans, La., Tallahassee, Fla. and Tampa, Fla. Through HFTH, WDC provides $5,000 in down payment assistance to single parents who have purchased a home through Habitat for Humanity through a closed nomination process. HFTH, through its presenting sponsor Aarons, Inc. (NYSE: AAN) provides furniture for every room. In addition, WDC fundraises to provide additional home décor items and necessities such as: Dishes & cookware, Lawn & garden equipment, Linens, Appliances, Fully stocked pantry and Cleaning supplies.
In 2012, WDC expanded its reach to include a mobile children's bereavement program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana named Betty's Hope. The program targets school-age children who, like our founder, have experienced the tragic loss of a parent/guardian/loved one to violent crime. The program offers these children a safe environment to heal and enhance their quality of life through group grief support.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT OF INTERNSHIP:
- Own projects to include in work portfolio;
- The opportunity to develop skills related to real world business experience and nonprofit best practice as well as other related skills (illustrating, video editing, graphic design, online communication);
- The opportunity to work in a highly regarded organization which values integrity and professional standards;
- Assistance with job placement if proven effective;
- A letter of reference from the Charity director upon review of completed projects;
- Collect community service hours;
- Option to receive credit hours through registered University programs.
