Location: alternates between the Fridley, MN office and home Position Description: Assist with coordinating and implementing fundraising events for the Huntington's Disease Society of America Upper Midwest Region. Provide support for approximately 40 fundraising and outreach events that take place in the states of MN, IA, ND, SD and NE. With an emphasis on community engagement, the primary purpose of this position is to support fundraising efforts and recruit volunteer, community and corporate support to reach specific fundraising and program goals. The Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) is a national non-profit volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Huntington's disease (HD), a catastrophic, degenerative brain disorder that devastates families for generations. As HD slowly diminishes ones ability to think, eat, talk, walk and reason, they become entirely dependent upon others to complete the simplest of daily tasks. Eventually the weakened individual succumbs to death from pneumonia, heart failure or other complications. Symptoms typically appear in the prime of ones life between 30 to 50 years old. After the onset of HD, the average life expectancy is only 10-20 years. Children who develop juvenile HD rarely live to adulthood.
