Department: Discovery Camp Position Summary: Discovery Camp is a summer day camp held at The Franklin Institute Science Museum. Children entering grades Pre-K - 8 are able to come to The Franklin Institute and participate in hands-on activities, visit exhibits and theaters, enjoy presentations by guest scientists and other professionals, and continue the science explorations they begin at the Institute on field trips related to the theme of the session. Intern will be asked to: Shadow campers with special cognitive and developmental needs, including spectrums of Autism in order to enrich campers experience and support camp staff. Contribute to adapting and developing programs with Museum Educators as needed to specifically serve the Museum's special needs visitors. Attend department meetings and training sessions, as requested. Educational Requirements: Working towards a degree in special education. Special Skills Required: Experience with special needs audiences. Experience working in a museum or cultural setting a plus. Strong communication skills required. Department: Design Position Summary: This internship involves design and fabrication of museum cart-based programs about the technology underlying cell phone and other portable electronic devices. The intern will assist with design, prototyping and final fabrication of programs that will eventually be distributed nationally. Education Requirements: Must be studying for or hold a degree in industrial design (or equivalent) Special Skills Required: Must be confident working with various materials in the shop.
