After five years of providing social services to women escaping prostitution, S.A.S.S. ("Save a Survivor's Smile") wants to publish a book based on our interactions with these women. Our goal is to honor the survivors' journeys, to celebrate their successes, and to educate the public on the needs of prostitution survivors. We seek an intern who will organize dozens of written documents and computer files, as well as conduct and transcribe interviews.

Who is Chicks Connect? Chicks Connect is based in Lake Oswego, OR and dedicated to assisting women with personal and professional growth and development. Started by Julie Muller in 2010, this Membership Community is based on supporting and educating women to live life on purpose while contributing to the growth and development of sister chicks. Chicks Connect is more than a membership, it is a movement toward bettering yourself personally and professionally using a mastermind format. Sex trafficking of both minors and adults is an exigent social problem in the city of Portland and the state of Oregon. My organization, S.A.S.S. ("Save a Survivor's Smile"), matches private dentists with survivor's whoose teeth have been damaged in the sex trade. In addition to our direct work with survivors, we provide community education and help to form legislative policy regarding the sex trade. Relevant policy Issues include adoption of the Nordic model, where sellers of sex are decriminalized, but buyers and middlemen are more severely punished and deterred, as civil remedy for vulnerable persons coerced into prostitution, increased funding for victims' drug rehabilitation, housing, and job training, and similar issues. In addition to helping victim's get dental work, we provide wrap-around support of clothing, groceries, prescription funding, and other needs. Major dental work is stressful, so we provide all the help we can while survivors undergo the process. In addition to our direct work with survivors, we provide community education and help to inform legislative policy regarding the sex trade. Interns will be offered an opportunity to provide a community of women support and systems to accomplish their dreams and goals. When you join our internship program, you will see that our culture is innovative and customer-focused. Interns can expect to be supported and challenged, have an internship project plan, and feel connected and valued by the Chicks Connect community. Internships require 14 hours per week or more for 16 weeks, depending on your internship project. (This can be adjusted to meet specific hour requirements for academic purposes.) Internships are available now for our Spring and Summer 2012 programs.
