About the Company: AthleteTutors® is an online math tutoring company geared towards supporting student athletes in grades 6 through 12. Our instructional practices are designed to help students master the Common Core Performance Standards adopted by 46 states, ensuring that student athletes receive instruction parallel to their counterparts nationwide. Each tutoring session is driven by the present academic needs of our students. By the end of each tutoring session, students are able to prove mastery of each skill by demonstrating both concrete (i.e., online whiteboard modeling using graphic tools) and abstract (i.e., online pencil and paper) understanding of the learning objective. Instructional guidance is scaffolded as needed until students are able to demonstrate problem-solving abilities using the online tools/manipulatives provided. Internship Description: The Tutor Intern will gain valuable experience in classroom-standard pedagogy. As an AthleteTutors® Intern you will: Use whiteboard technology to create and manage learning space for students Engage students in lesson introduction, guided practice, independent practice, and assessment Communicate effectively with students and parents via instant messaging/online chatting to ensure mastery of the learning objective and student progress Qualifications: Strong written communication skills Knowledge of typical online whiteboard technology tools Proficiency in 6-12 mathematics (through pre-calculus preferred) Computer and Internet access Internship Schedule Non-credit internship: 90 minutes/day, Monday-Thursday 6:00-7:30 pm, 7:30-9:00 pm, 9:00-10:30 pm OR 10:30-midnight, EST

ForKids, inc. is a dynamic, award-winning agency that has led the fight to end childhood homelessness since opening its doors in 1991. Since then we have helped over 1,400 families and 4,500 children work toward self-sufficiency and independence. Our comprehensive housing programs include emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing for families with disabilities, and aftercare for families who exit our residential programs. We have a professional, dedicated staff that provides our client families with case management, family and child counseling, life skills education, housing placement, budgeting, and comprehensive childrens programming. We serve 26 families each night with over 60 children, and have been recognized for service excellence on the local, regional and national levels. ForKids internships provide an ideal opportunity for students to gain real-world work experience relevant to their academic and career goals. ForKids helps prepare students for an exciting future in the non-profit field by offering opportunities to explore the many diverse career options potentially available to them in areas of human and social services. This is also an excellent way for students to give back to their communities while adding tangible work skills to their resumes. *All internships are unpaid* ForKids is in need of 2 outstanding interns for our Resource Assistance Center & HART hotline. This is an awesome opportunity to gain experience talking with families within our community who are facing financial hardships and homelessness. This exposure provides client contact that serves as direct assistance for an internship. Talking to people in crisis and helping to triage their needs based on the resources available provides a student with valuable clinical experience.
