Founded in 1865, the American Association of School Administrators is the professional organization for more than 13,000 educational leaders in the United States and throughout the world. AASA members range from chief executive officers, superintendents and senior level school administrators to cabinet members, professors and aspiring school system leaders. AASA is seeking a fall and/or summer intern who will work with the policy and communications team. This is a great short-term internship opportunity for a college student interested in pursuing a career in publishing, journalism or communications. The ideal candidate will be able to work 25 hours per week and be a strong editor and writer. The intern will have the following responsibilities and benefit in the following ways: Edit and re-write articles on the policies enacted by successful school districts and learn how to re-work print content into an appropriate online format. Learn two separate online content management systems (CMS) and how to format and update content between the sites. Produce and design communication materials that promote AASAs website, electronic publications and social media sites. Become skilled in managing e-commerce portions of a website. In addition to developing editorial and web skills, this internship is an excellent learning opportunity for someone who is interested in understanding the problems that school districts in America are facing and the best approaches for improving academic achievement in a variety of school settings. The intern will come away with in-depth understanding of the local challenges of running a school system as well as how federal policy affects school leaders ability to implement change.
