The U.S. National Arboretum was established in 1927 by an Act of Congress. The Arboretum is administered by the U.S. Department of Agricultures Agricultural Research Service and maintains three locations in Washington D.C., Beltsville, MD, and McMinneville, TN. The mission of the Arboretum is to serve the public need for scientific research, education, and gardens that conserve and showcase plants to enhance the environment. The U.S. National Arboretum offers a limited number of internships to qualified individuals seeking on-the-job work experience and training in horticulture, botany, research, and education. Selected individuals gain hands-on experience throughout the Arboretum's various plant collections, greenhouses, and research laboratories. All interns complete a project (group or independent) during their internship. In addition interns will enjoy a series of field trips to area gardens. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual that is interested in obtaining hands on experience in the Human Resources Department of a large international non-profit organization. The HR Intern will provide clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Department and assist with special HR projects. Internship will provide an opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of various Human Resources functions.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization working toward effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. For the last 26 years, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do. PCRMs Toxicology and Regulatory Testing team finds and implements science and policy-based solutions to reduce and replace the use of animals in tests conducted by pesticide, chemical, drug, and cosmetic companies. The Toxicology and Regulatory Testing Intern will work with our Director of Regulatory Testing Issues on researching and preparing educational materials (web and print), assisting with grassroots, media and educational aspects of our campaign to encourage cosmetic companies to stop testing on animals, assisting with the teams lobbying activities, including tracking Capitol Hill visits and preparing materials, and assisting with the preparation of reports for the public or for peer-reviewed publication on topics related to animal testing. This internship is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the policy issues associated with efforts to promote alternatives to the use of animals for product and chemical testing while making a valuable contribution to PCRMs campaigns.

DDF offers several internship opportunities for students passionate about protecting civil liberties, especially the right to dissent. Interns will generally work out of our national office, which is located in Takoma Park, Maryland just outside Washington, DC or remotely from anywhere in the U.S. Interns at the national office will have the opportunity to attend educational forums, symposia and meetings hosted by our allies, think tanks and local universities. National office interns will also participate in meetings with coalition partners, Congressional staff and staff from different federal agencies and the White House. All DDF interns will engage in substantive work including research, writing, lobbying and coalition-building. Specific projects interns will work on include the Campaign to Protect Animnal Rights Activism; Rapid Response Solidarity Network; Civil Liberties Wikipedia; Dissent & Repression Comic Series; Defending Dissent Radio; Direct and Grassroots Lobbying. Summer Internship Program: This is an 8-week internship in our national office. Students are expected to work 30 hours per week and are paid a modest stipend. Remote Internships: This flexible internship offers students the opportunity to work on DDF projects from anywhere in the U.S. Fall or Spring Semester Internship Program: Full or part-time interns are accepted at our national office or can work remotely.
