Research Intern

International Centre for Missing and Exploited ChildrenAlexandria, VA
As the workload of ICMEC continues to grow and resources are stretched, the contributions of interns are extremely important. ICMEC interns who share the same belief in our goals help to make the success stories happen. Some of the research projects for which ICMEC is seeking Research Interns are: Child Pornography: Model Legislation and Global Review Update The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children published the first edition of the report, Child Pornography: Model Legislation & Global Review, in April 2006. In late 2011 we began the process of updating the country research in preparation for the 7th edition. The research reviews the current legislative status of each of the 196 countries in regards to child pornography laws, as well as the collection of new information on the implementation and enforcement of existing legislation, data retention laws and policies, grooming policies, and more. We are looking for 1-2 legal research interns to help complete the research on existing child pornography legislation; verify and track information submitted by foreign Embassies and collected by a law firm assisting with research; and assist with drafting and finalizing the 7th Edition report for publication. Missing Children Research Project To address the lack of international standards and guidelines on protecting children from going missing/being abducted, and on how to effectively and quickly respond when a child does go missing/is abducted, we have begun conducting in-depth research on legislation, best practices, and policies related to missing children to identify trends and common themes while highlighting gaps. The research began in partnership with UNICEF by focusing on the seven Central American countries. The report on Central America was completed in late 2011 and we have now begun to look at countries in other regions. We are collecting existing resources, laws, practices, and policies through open source searches from NGOs and other organizations working on missing children issues. The end goal is a Best Practice Guide on creating and implementing a national structure for prevention, location, investigation, and prosecution of missing childrens cases. We are seeking research (legal) interns to assist research of legislation and policy on missing children, and writing and analysis of the information collected. Other projects include: Internet Facilitated Child Sex Trafficking Research Project Online Grooming of Children Research Project Model Child Protection Legislation Project
