The Corporation for National and Community Service through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), and Learn and Serve America has a long-standing commitment to working with tribal nations on a government-to-government basis and is committed to enhancing the collaboration process across all programs to address critical issues affecting Native American communities. The programs of CNCS are committed to supporting the culture of service that has existed in Native American communities for generations. Our programs address critical issues of concern to Native American communities, including assisting elders, veterans and military families, cultural preservation, economic development, health and wellness, youth leadership, educational attainment, clean energy, and traditional language and land preservation. CNCS is unable to offer stipends, relocation or housing assistance. However, this internship offers opportunities to gain excellent practical work experience and skill development. The National MS Society, National Capital Chapter is seeking a talented graphic designer to help develop and design Chapter publications, including newsletters, program brochures, direct mail, web graphics, advertisements and t-shirt designs. Contribute your graphic design knowledge and gain valuable professional experience working for a world free of MS. The designer best suited for this position should have a strong knowledge of graphic design principles concerning typography and layout. The designer should be able to work quickly, maintain consistency, and pay close attention to details. The National MS Society is a non-profit collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS nowto move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn't. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. REQUIREMENTS The internship takes place May through August 2013 The Intern must work a minimum of 12-24 hours a week for 8 weeks. This position is best suited for students currently enrolled in an art education program with a focus on Graphic Design This position is unpaid. Academic credit will depend on individual curricula. Work completed for the MS Society may be retained for your portfolio. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and design publications, and web graphics for client programs, special events and development. Support the chapter's communications department on assigned projects such as advertisements, editing existing materials, and photo manipulation. Maintain file organization standards, and archive materials in an efficient manner. Contribute to or otherwise assist the Graphic Design Coordinator. SKILLS DESIRED Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. Strong foundation in the principles of Graphic Design and Typography. Good oral and written communication abilities and a desire to work with a variety of people. Ability to take initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks. National MS Society Internship National Capital Chapter Title: Programs and Services Intern Job Description: This internship will offer the opportunity to learn about MS, its symptoms, managing the condition, and up-to-date research. The intern will interact with clients, healthcare professionals and other service professionals. Primary Responsibilities: 1) Financial Assistance Program Assistant Assist in the evaluation of the Chapters financial assistance programs (respite, emergency, equipment, transportation, health and wellness). Make monthly phone calls to recipients of the program. Assist with data entry for Respite, Transportation, Equipment, Physical Health and Emergency Financial Assistance programs. 2) Information & Referral Update and Outreach to New Service Providers Place calls to social services organizations and healthcare providers that participate in the chapters Service Provider referral database to confirm contact information, eligibility requirements and services they provide. Organize outreach efforts to new service providers (examples include county social services, nursing homes, equipment distributors, other non-profit social services agencies etc.) Update Information and Referral database with information from surveys and calls. Skills Desired: 1. Interest in pursuing future work in community health or social work. 2. Comfortable speaking to others and working with a variety of people 3. Basic understanding of the benefits of customer service 4. Ability to work independently and take initiative 5. Flexibility 6.
