Cradles to Crayons —
Brighton, MA
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated student leaders to participate in the Cradles to Crayons internship program as a way to increase our capacity, which directly affects our ability to serve more children. The Cradles to Crayons Distribution Department establishes and maintains partnerships with social service agencies to fill a critical gap of essential items for children in need. The College Corps Community Partner Relations Intern will be immersed in the Cradles to Crayons Distribution Department, and be in charge of a variety of tasks that include, but are not exclusive to:
- Attend school-based food pantries where you will lead a group of volunteers in collecting orders for everyday essential items directly from families and then input them into the C2C online ordering system upon their collection
- Attend 2013 Backpack-a-thon to help manage volunteers and the pick-up of backpacks off of City Hall Plaza in Boston
- Help manage distribution of backpacks from C2C Brighton warehouse to partner agencies
- Generate and distribute weekly reports articulating product demand
- Create quarterly newsletter for our non-profit partners
- Utilize the agency database and Microsoft Excel to create, organize and articulate trends and patterns of demand data, create receipts of engagement for partners, work to articulate backpack data, etc.
- Use free mapping software to create a map that articulates where partners are located, type of services they provide, etc. which will help us to better understand our impact geographically
- Keep an air of flexibility to take on special projects as they come, including, but not exclusive to: helping with Kidpack pick-ups as needed, drafting emails as needed and help outreach to potential transportation partners, etc.
- Participate in ongoing orientation/training and leadership development sessions.
Beyond hands on work experience, we are committed to ensuring that interns have the opportunity to learn about the various components of building a social enterprise. As such, we have designed programs for interns that will focus on social entrepreneurship and the management of a social enterprise. Through structured sessions which will include the CEO and Founder of Cradles to Crayons, Lynn Margherio, interns will have the opportunity to network and learn about the success factors that drive a social enterprise.
As a College Corps Community Partner Relations Intern, you will gain skills in these areas of the nonprofit management field: exposure to the hundreds of non-profit programs/organizations across the state of Massachusetts that partner with C2C, utilize and build upon customer service skills, build skills in collaboration across departments within a nonprofit, and increase your knowledge and exposure to social enterprises. Our hope is that through your internship at C2C, you will learn valuable skills to create lasting change in the world.
