Communications/Story Collection Internship: The Family Equality Council, which connects, supports, and represents the three million parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender in this country and their six million children, is recruiting a DC-based intern to assist its communications office. Candidates should have first-rate organizing skills, be familiar with LGBT and/or progressive issues, and steeped in new media tactics. Position requires at least 20 hours of work.
Background: Founded in 1979, Council Family Equality Council is changing attitudes and policies to ensure that all families are respected, loved, and celebratedincluding families with parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. We are a community of parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren that reaches across this country. For over 30 years we have raised our children and raised our voices toward fairness for all families.
Internship Summary: The stories from LGBT families offer us unique insights into the lives of the families we represent and provide us with strong arguments in favor of equality. The Story Collection internship is structured around cataloging archival media (photos, videos, etc) and assisting in the creation and implementation of new systems to collect new stories and other information from LGBT families. Success in this position requires highly developed organizational skills, the ability to problem solve independently, a team-oriented mindset, and excellent interpersonal skills.
