Firebrand Media, a fast-growing Orange County media company, is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented college students for an editorial internship in magazine journalism for spring 2013. Our interns will gain valuable practical experience working on the company's regional magazines and luxury hotel publications, including Newport Beach Magazine, Laguna Beach Magazine, Bespoke Magazine (the official publication for St. Regis Hotels & Resorts), Montage Magazine, Preferred Lifestyles magazine and more. Interns will have an opportunity to: Develop story ideas and participate in planning meetings, where they will pitch their ideas to the editorial team. Assist editors in editing/fact-checking articles. Write content for the magazines and leave with published print clips. Assist the digital team by posting articles to OCinSite.com. Participate in tutorials in other areas of magazine production, including photo editing and video, as time allows. Work on other tasks as assigned according to skill set and level of interest. Requirements: This is an internship offering academic credit only. We are flexible and can accommodate school and work schedules, but we ask that interns commit to a minimum of two days per week in our Laguna Beach office. This is a real-world learning experience for students, so interns should be open to receiving feedback and have a serious interest in magazine journalism. Interns will have an opportunity to learn firsthand how to plan content for each issue, research/develop feature and department article ideas and pitch to the editorial team, and write and edit content for print and web, among other tasks. They may also have the chance to participate in tutorials in layout/design and video to help develop their knowledge of the different facets of the magazine industry.
