The Intern works as part of the team in the Education Department, with primary responsibilities devoted to leading interpretive public and group tours of current exhibitions, and interacting with museum visitors at the museum's "Ask Me" desk. Additional responsibilities may be to assist in Kidspace to oversee public hours, help visitors explore the Freedom exhibition and create their own works of art. The intern assists the Education Department with: summer art camp; upcoming events and gallery activities; family guides and curriculum activities; grant research; and with some office duties as needed. Weekend hours required. In addition to the museum's intern education program, the intern participates with other education department interns in an education intensive to explore museum and art education theories and practicalities. This is a great opportunity for a student (especially education and arts majors) to learn how to make contemporary art accessible to the public thru educational programming, and a successful candidate is one who is outgoing, enjoys public speaking, and has a genuine interest in working with people of all abilities. Should also have strong writing skills.

During the academic year, Visual Arts interns will assist in many day-to-day operations of a busy, multifaceted department, combining aspects of exhibition design, curatorial work, registration, and education. The successful candidate will have a documented history of attention to detail, good writing ability, and a positive attitude about performing many kinds of tasks on a demanding schedule.

Interns work directly with MASS MoCAs Box Office Manager in day-to-day operations, including ticketing museum admission, performing arts, giving public and/or private tours, and customer service. Interns gain proficient knowledge about performing arts events, the museum, Berkshire County, and current exhibitions to confidently field questions from the public. You will be required to intern up to 50 hours per week, although some weeks will be longer. Intern will be working directly with the Manager of Foundations and Corporate Grants and the Membership Coordinator on all aspects of MASS MoCAs fundraising activities, including research, grant-writing, direct mail, special events and database management. Interns will be required to work up to 50 hours per week, although some weeks could be longer. In an average week, you will spend two days working on foundations and corporate grants and two days on membership, with the remaining day alternating as workload requires.

Interns work with the Production Coordinator, Master Carpenter, Master Electrician, House Sound Engineer, and house crew on all aspects of technical theatre and film. This includes hands-on in all of the following areas carpentry, lighting, sound, audio/visual, and running crew.

Intern assists in day-to-day tasks of MASS MoCA's in-house design studio, both digital and physical, working closely with the design, curatorial and marketing departments. Working directly with the Design Director and Senior Designer, this position is 1/3 graphic designer, 1/3 production, and 1/3 jack-of-all-trades. Projects include (but not limited to) production and installation of vinyl exhibition and way finding signage, weekly advertisement design, digital archive management, vendor contact, daily museum photography, upkeep of website components, and general studio tasks. Intern should demonstrate enthusiasm, stamina, and willingness to work with a team.

Intern work directly with the Managing Director of Performing Arts in the coordination of current and future season planning, general office work, and maintaining and updating all performing arts files. Also, the intern will alternate between the Assistant to the Managing Director and Company Manager with drafting event programs, researching upcoming artists, assisting with artist services to arranging transportation and housing logistics of visiting artists, staff, and fellow interns.

We also have academic internships where you can receive up to 12-15 credits for full time employment that could be arranged between the applicants school and MASS MoCA.

Assets for Artists is an innovative and fast-growing program that offers free financial training, business planning resources, and working capital grants for artists to invest in their creative micro-enterprises. The program now serves over 100 artists (in all disciplines) throughout the northeast. Working at MASS MoCA (the lead partner behind Assets for Artists) as a key member of a small team, the Assets for Artists intern will be involved in all aspects of program administration and development, including artist outreach, data management, grantwriting and stewardship, content development for social media, and researching and promoting artist opportunities to our network.
