The Barrier Island Center is located between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean on the barrier island in south Melbourne Beach, Florida. The Center is a modern environmental education facility with an interactive exhibit hall, auditorium, classroom, gift shop, observation deck and unique interpretive hiking trail that weaves through a cross section of the barrier island habitats. Located in the heart of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, home to the largest sea turtle nesting population in the U.S., the Barrier Island Center serves as the Refuge Visitor Center.
Brevard Countys Environmentally Endangered Lands Program and Sea Turtle Conservancy partner at the Barrier Island Center to host a variety of environmental education activities for visiting schools, local residents and tourists designed to foster appreciation and stewardship of the barrier islands native habitats, sea turtles and wildlife.
