We are a promotional group looking for photography interns to take photos of our weekly events. We are looking for enthusiastic photographers who can interact with the crowd and always "capture the moment". Must have own equipment (DSLR camera and flash a must!) as well as a great social skills and an inviting personality.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Photography Intern is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in expanding his/her photography portfolio, gaining experience with nature and landscape photography, and learning more about marketing a nonprofit organization. The intern will visit preserves across the state of Iowa to take photographs throughout the summer, coordinate with volunteers and area photographers to collect photos and maintain permission forms, manage our photo database and develop a plan for obtaining photos from members.

This is an unpaid internship and the intern will work approximately ten hours per week for ten weeks. The intern will be based out of our downtown Des Moines office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Take photographs of natural areas and wildlife across the state of Iowa.
• Coordinate photo submissions from area photographers and manage photo permission waivers.
• Cultivate relationships with area photographers to increase submissions of high quality photographs.
• Manage photo database, create captions for photos and ensure each photo has proper credit.
• Create a method of encouraging photo submissions from members we do not currently have contact with.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Undergraduate or Graduate Student
• Minimum one year training in photography
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, and Excel
• Photo editing and design experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in different situations
• A positive attitude
• Interest in nature photography with an existing portfolio
• Knowledgeable about Iowas natural landscapes
• Knowledgeable about Iowas plant and animal communities

Our intern would be needed to assist with the administrative aspect of the business and also given the opportunity to learn more in the multimedia industry. Olive Yew is a rapidly expanding e-commerce company specializing in handmade jewelry. We operate in a very casual but fast paced environment. You will be expected to show up - on time and work diligently in an always changing environment. Intern will be responsible for paperwork between University & employer. College credit upon successful completion of internship and glowing references supplied for future employers upon request. You'll be working with the highest trending lifestyle and fashion sites on the web (currently 16 store fronts and growing)! Photos will be property of Olive Yew, but can be used in portfolio. We are a small-ish company full of creative, fun people who truly enjoy our jobs - but we do work hard and fast. We have 3-4 lifestyle photoshoots per year with models, hair & make-up. If you would like to participate in these shoots, you're welcome to assist with these (and shoot as well if desired). Additionally, we all kick-in if a huge project comes up and we might need to drop everything to hit that deadline. A sense of urgency is a must in these situations and experience hitting deadlines is preferred. Ability to start ASAP and 3 month commitment preferred. 20-30 hours per week.
