Research in target communities includes: assessing community needs, implementing reach-out strategies, and becoming familiar with musical preferences. So far, Ashkenaz has worked with several communities on the UC Berkeley campus including KALX, I-House, UC Berkeley Music Department, and the Art Department. You will have a chance to become involved in our on-going projects which include Cal Music Spotlight and Cal Talent Night. Cal Music Spotlight invites student to compete in an online voting contest to perform as an opening act at Ashkenaz, and Cal Talent Night invites various artists and musicians to showcase their talent in an end of semester event. The goal for Spring 2013 interns is to build a lasting relationship between Ashkenaz and individual target communities. This may include concert brainstorming, event planning, and show promotions to the communities. TWO internships are available. Internships are not paid, but college credit is available. Positions are 10-15 hours per week, from mid February through mid May. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is a national non-profit and non-partisan Hispanic educational organization whose mission is to develop the next generation of Latino Leaders. CHCI seeks to accomplish its mission by offering educational and leadership development programs, services, and activities that promote the growth of participants as effective professionals and strong leaders. Our programs are designed to increase the participation of young Hispanics in both public and private sectors. Our vision is an educated and civically active Latino community who participates at the local, state, and federal policy decision-making levels. CHCI programs serve more than 1,500 young Latinos annually. Many are first in their family to go to college, and the majority comes from families with annual incomes below $30,000. CHCI's unique model of educational services and leadership development promoting college readiness, supporting college attainment and providing direct access to the most powerful network of Latino leadership helps ensure career success and has put thousands of young people on a pathway to achieving the American Dream. Scope of work includes: Assist with administrative duties pertaining to the CHCI Leadership Development programs, which include the Congressional Internship Program and Fellowship Program. Major duties include: o Training of the Online Application Management System and assist in the management of the intake, review and selection processes for Fall CIP applicants o Maintenance of CHCI program web pages o Assist in the development of applicant Demographic Reports o Assist with Summer Internship Orientation Week preparation o Assist with planning of participant professional trainings o Assists in communication and correspondence with Program Sponsors o Assist with Program Events as they arise (Graduation, o Receptions, off site events, etc.) o Assist in the identification of and outreach to placements for Summer Internship o participants Practices effective organization for administrative tasks Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
