Calphalon, a division of Newell Rubbermaid located in Atlanta, GA and is a leading manufacturer and distributor of kitchen housewares. The position of industrial designer co-op is responsible to work in a cross-functional team environment assisting the Manager, R&D - Design, from concept to finished product. Develop and design concepts for new products and product lines. Project may be independent from the Manager, R&D - Design and focused on short-term deliverables. Work with freehand sketches as well as CAD models in both 2D and 3D, using programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Solidworks, or Pro-E. Prototype design concepts to demonstrate their appearance and evaluate functionality. Reports to the Sr, Industrial Designer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assisting the NPD team on the research element of product development
· Work closely with the product development teams under the direction of the Sr. Industrial Designer in the development process.
· Refine designs in Solidworks or Pro-E platforms.
· Create concept renderings in Keyshot.
· Prototyping / modeling of design concepts. Assist in prototype development (Z-Corp, Eden, painting, etc.)
· Support the design team in general where necessary.
Qualifications This position requires one to be enrolled in an Industrial Design, at the respective University. Must have two years of course work completed towards an Industrial Design degree. Must be familiar with Microsoft Software, Including Adobe Illustrator. Ideally have some experience on Alias or Pro-E Knowledge of the housewares industry a plus. Strong interest in culinary arts also preferred.

Position Description
Assists with documentation of structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design. Assists with development, maintenance and modification of payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Assists with tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Assists with management of supplier development, test and production activities to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Works under close supervision.

Typical Education/Experience

The Mechanical Structural Engineering function in St Louis is looking for entry level engineers with an interest and aptitude in structural design. Successful candidates will have a desire to work in a dynamic team environment and be able to demonstrate application of engineering principles to solve structural design problems. This is a general requisition that supports multiple staffing requirements for weapons and aircraft programs at the site. Related internships and work experiences are also considered a plus.
