GIS Habitat Restoration Internship

About the Internship Position: Save The Bay seeks a highly motivated individual to support Save The Bay's Policy and Education Programs. Save The Bay is working on ways to incorporate activities within our policy and habitat restoration programs with our education department to enhance experiential learning. To support this effort, we seek a GIS intern to create maps and a geodatabase that tie policy issues and habitat restoration activities in to local schools. This internship is an excellent opportunity for motivated individual to have a hands-on role in ecological restoration efforts, gain an understanding of practical GIS applications and experience using GIS in real world projects, receive experience with database and project management, and environmental problem-solving techniques. Compensation: Save The Bay Internships are unpaid. Save The Bay will work with your school to receive credit for your internship. This position would be 5-10 hours per week with flexible days. All Save The Bay Interns are also required to work at the Save The Bay Swim on Saturday, July 20. Once candidates are selected for internship positions, they will be notified by telephone and a confirmation letter will be set by mail. Development Services Department is responsible for all planning, development and permitting activities in Corpus Christi. The department brings together building services, civil engineering, planning and zoning, permit applications, major projects and records in a way that customers can access information, start new projects, and get projects approved. The City Council has identified a successful "One-Stop Shop" Development Center as a community priority. Goals for the department include: Enhance the City's outreach efforts to promote economic development in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corporation Implement new permitting and inspections software, including on-line permitting and inspection request options Quicker turnaround on inspection results for customer benefits Implement on-line payment for permit fees Improvement of infrastructure plan review Improvement of plat acceptance procedures Quick, consistent turnaround time on commercial and residential plan review Implement the Unified Development Code, which will consolidate Zoning, Platting and other associated codes of the City Provide a front counter area so that over-the-counter business can be transacted for all divisions within the department In early 2009, Development Services began implementing a new integrated customer service based process. This process is aimed at ensuring our customers improved experience in obtaining more comprehensive information, a more timely and efficient project decision, and the coordinated construction of their project.
