Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library is the former estate of H.F. du Pont with 60 acres of naturalistic garden set within a 1000 acres of woods, meadows & streams amid the rolling hills of Delaware's Brandywine Valley. Appealing to a wide audience of tourists, culture seekers, and avid horticulturists, the Winterthur Garden is a historic and rare example of a "wild garden". The Groundskeeping Intern will learn proper turfgrass management techniques through hands-on experience in the day to day management of the turf within the Winterthur Garden and Estate. They will gain experience in handling a range of mowers and turf situations. They will also assist with the maintenance of the historic naturalistic design of the garden by learning and practicing good safetyand excellent horticultural techniques e.g. fertilizing, planting, pruning, leaf removal, mowing, spraying pesticides, mulching, weedeating and learn the cultural requireents and botanical nomenclature of the plants along with the design principles used in the Winterthur Garden.
