Inland Empire Heart & Stroke Walk Internship

American Heart AssociationRiverside, CA
The American Heart Associations Inland Empire Heart & Stroke Walk raises awareness and much-needed funds to fight Inland Empires leading killers heart disease and stroke. The 5K non-competitive walk will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. The event was designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living in an environment that is fun and rewarding for the entire family. The American Heart Association invests millions of dollars every year in research and has contributed to many important discoveries such as CPR, life-extending drugs, pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart-lung machine, and surgical techniques to repair heart defects. Last year alone, the American Heart Association funded $395,500 in research projects in the Inland Empire. The goal of the Inland Empire Heart & Stroke Walk is to raise $242,000 to help the AHA continue its cardiovascular research efforts. As an event intern, you will be asked to own a specific portion of the campaign creating a plan and executing that plan. The project that you own will depend on your experience and career goals. Projects will range from volunteer management (recruitment, communication, organization and day of event oversight), in-kind gift management (researching local companies that provide charitable in-kind gifts, reaching out to those companies and making those asks and securing gifts), or promotion (recruiting volunteers to canvas the area and encourage participation). This is just an example of some of the projects that are available but again we will work with your skill set to determine what might be the best fit for you and our event.
