The Swirl World
The Swirl World is an online blog website with a corresponding Facebook page that publishes articles and posts photographs of black women interracial couples and families. We are looking for interns with an interest in journalism and new media. They must be familiar with WordPress and have a knack for producing clear, concise and engaging copy.
Responsibilities*Updating and maintaining The Swirl World’s Facebook page with the newest and latest news pertaining to our demographic.
*Assisting the editorial team with day-to-day research and fact checking for writing assignments and content production.
*Handpicking pertinent articles and events
*Heavy editing and posting photos.
*Liaising with writers, contributors and photographers.
*Promoting The Swirl World on Twitter, Facebook, blogs and other social media.
*Updating our Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and website accounts.
RequirementsInterns don’t necessarily need a background in journalism, but they do need to be familiar with a range of tools necessary to manage social media., i.e., photo editing software, video editing, WordPress and other social media plug ins and applications. Also should have an interest in fashion, beauty and photojournalism. Experienced interns may receive press credentials to assist in covering interracial or swirling related events.
Passionate and knowledgeable about social media
Must show initiative, creativity and self-motivation
Familiar with SEO and Meta Data
Knowledge and expertise with Photoshop, WordPress and Wordpress widgets and plug-ins
Fluent English (Spanish or French a plus)
Able to handle multiple projects/deadlines
Excellent research and people skills
Heavy user of social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
