Prairie Center Arts Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit whose mission is to vitalize and enrich the cultural arts by providing financial support to the Prairie Center for the Arts which is the focal point for cultural activities in Schaumburg and northwest suburban Chicago. The foundation supports is mission by securing corporate and individual donations, grant writing, and special event fundraising.

Intern Position: Social Media/Marketing Intern
Under the general direction of the Prairie Center Arts Foundation staff, write and edit social media posts, build and execute social media marketing campaigns and tactics, monitor and coordinate responses to social media posts, and develop, monitor and report measures for social media sites. Also, research, monitor and report on social media best practices, using social media during key events (e.g. Twitter). Participate in social media efforts bringing together Prairie Center Arts Foundation events and Prairie Center for the Arts programs, to deliver organizational goals across all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, You Tube and other external facing tools as they emerge.


Responsibilities include:

Lead and execute all social media efforts, with primary emphasis on Facebook and Twitter.

Work in concert with Prairie Center Arts Foundation to ensure efforts are aligned with brand strategy and communication needs throughout the year, exercising independent judgment and discretion to craft social media messaging on a consistent basis.

Work with Prairie Center Arts Foundation to plan and execute messaging plan, with specific emphasis on the Foundation’s 21.40 initiative and fundraising events benefiting the Prairie Center for the Arts.

Assist with overall marketing efforts for Foundation activities, including 21.40 events.

Update Foundation on all social media plans, progress, and results.

Assist with planning events geared to the 21.40 demographic, with emphasis on marketing these activities.

Attend meetings of the 21.40 committee as scheduled.


A successful candidate would have:

Superior knowledge of social media and digital marketing programs. Strong grasp of marketing, brand-building, public relations, and social media best practices.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Creativity, creative writing, and some design experience.

Proficient use of social media platforms and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

The ability to read, analyze, and interpret sales and marketing reports and publications.

High-level of service orientation. Capable of efficiently and accurately working with deadlines. High level of organization and attention to detail. Discernment and maturity in decision-making. Ability to work independently and within teams.
