DescriptionBehind the Book is a literacy nonprofit with the mission to excite youth about reading and promote a reading culture in inner-city public schools in NYC. We bring published authors and illustrators into classrooms to lead a series of curriculum-based workshops and guide students through the completion of a unique final project. For every author visit, students are provided with an individual copy of the author’s book and are required to produce a written or illustrated project.
The position will be based at our Upper West Side office.
The commitment is for one semester, one day a week, hours are flexible.
Web/Social Media Marketing Intern responsibilities include:
* Writing regular blog posts
* Attending classroom visits and other Behind the Book events for blog content
* Managing social media content on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads
* Creating a weekly schedule for Facebook and Twitter posts
* Researching relevant news articles to be shared through social media
* Photography skills would be a plus
The successful candidate will be someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. Experience with social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. A majority of the required work can be completed out of the office. Constant electronic contact is a must.
The intern will report directly to the Executive Director.
