DescriptionBirmingham Fun and Family Magazine is a well-established monthly publication with accompanying web site and social media serving Birmingham, Alabama, Metro families. The Social Media Assistant will learn how to set up and post updates to our social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, while engaging in conversations with our existing and potential new customers as well as our readers. This internship may also include updating and customizing our website or designing and sending out our email announcements and newsletter through our mass email program. You will learn and train with us on various technologies after you become the “Expert” on our team. The goal of this internship is to increase the content, resources, and overall exposure of Birmingham Fun and Family and our advertisers through social media marketing. You’ll gain invaluable skills in research, writing, internet marketing, search engine optimization, social media, and more!
ResponsibilitiesThe Social Media Assistant will research various social media platforms, engage in a variety of professional learning environments and ultimately share your new knowledge of various technologies after you become the "expert" on our team. You will learn to use email marketing platforms and may possibly gain exposure to Search Engine Optimization and Content Management tools if time permits. The goal for this internship is to obtain the necessary knowledge to increase the content, resources, and overall exposure of Birmingham Kids and Family Magazine through the use of valuable new media technologies. You will gain invaluable skills in research, writing, Internet marketing, social media, and more!
RequirementsWe're looking for a technology or social media guru in the making. You have excellent writing, grammar, and communications skills and a basic knowledge and comfort learning and navigating social media. Most importantly, we are looking for interns with enthusiasm, dedication, a thirst for learning, and the self-motivation to work independently. You must be proficient with technology and have a computer, phone, internet access, and an email account. Applicants of any age (18-100) and any career and educational background can apply. We welcome students as well as those who are unemployed, underemployed, stay-at-home moms and dads, or anyone who wants to further their knowledge, skills and experience in these areas.
This is a virtual internship, but we would like to meet locally to help train and update. The position will not require office hours, but it does require an initial interview and training meeting.
