Interns to help develop and implement daily P.E. curriculum throughout our five-week Academy summer camp for girls, ages 4-12!
Throughout our five-week camp Physical Education Interns will work from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, five days a week, to organize and facilitate P.E. activities and instruction for campers (girls, ages 4-12). Engaging multiple groups of campers P.E. Interns will acquire experience scaling and developing Physical Education curriculum to serve a varied range of students from ages 4 to 12. As a Project Scientist P.E. Intern you will help shape the minds, paths and enthusiasm of our talented and passionate students.
ResponsibilitiesProject Scientist P.E. Interns are vital to providing students with a well-balanced, integrated STEM experience. Throughout camp P.E. Interns will both draw on and grow their knowledge of Physical Education and Exercise Science as they gain real field-experience implementing the latest research-proven techniques and curriculum. Project Scientist is looking for 16 high-energy and committed college or post-graduate students to join our team this summer at Project Scientist Academy. The ideal candidate will have an interest and academic background in Physical Education or Exercise Science with a passion for empowering young girls to reach their highest potential.
This unpaid internship position will work five days a week alongside Project Scientist Academy teachers and coaches to facilitate hands-on STE(A)M education through the integration of PE activities, games and more during our five-week Academy summer camp. Project Scientist seeks to provide, not only, students with the best possible environment and resources for innovative STEM learning, but also interns and coaches! Our program aims to advance our staff’s passion for empowering the next generation of leaders by providing our educators the rare opportunity to receive the latest and most innovative professional development training in gender-equitable STEM education. It is our goal to inspire not only our students, but also our staff, to take an innovative and exciting approach to education, both inside and outside of the classroom!
• Academic background in Exercise Science Physical Education, Human Services Child Care, or Early Childhood Education. A focus or interest in STEM would be ideal, but not mandatory.

Project Scientist would like P.E. Interns to work one shift each day, Monday - Friday, throughout the duration of camp. P.E. Intern shifts are tentatively scheduled to run 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM, daily. Camp will be held Monday through Friday, from June 27 – August 8 at two Charlotte, NC locations, Queens University of Charlotte and Trinity Episcopal School.
To be considered for the position of Project Scientist Ambassador for Education, all applicants must attend an all-day professional development and SciGirls training workshop (unpaid), hosted by Project Scientist on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Charlotte, NC. In addition to attending the training session, each coach will receive a Project Scientist and SciGirls Training Certificate as well as a plethora of educational resources to take back to the classroom. Project Scientist will also hold a mandatory two-day, hands-on training workshop (unpaid) for camp the week of June 16, 2014 to prepare all teaching fellows, coaches and camp staff for the five-week academy.
