DescriptionThe International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum seeks talented college students searching for a dynamic internship experience in museum/attraction marketing; sport management and marketing; and public relations and community outreach. Interns will have hands on experience in a variety of efforts including, but not limited to, copy writing, photography, organizing promotional events, website management, media relations and on-site experience at a professional sports event.
The focus of this internship is in to promote the ITHF via marketing, public relations, advertising, events, community and media relations, with the goal of increasing attendance and support for all departments (Museum, Tournament, Retail, Tennis Club and Membership/Development). Particular emphasis is placed on attracting tennis fans, tourists and area residents to visit the Museum and attend the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Should an intern have interest in a specific area of work, arrangements can be made to place emphasis on this.
Assist with the marketing and promotional campaign to increase visitation to the museum
Writing/editing/distributing press releases and website information as directed
Development of promotional plans for Museum programs and special events (lectures, book signings, kids activities, etc.)
Copy-writing and proof-reading of press releases, collateral materials and website
Distribution of promotional materials to area establishments
Assist in the development of new promotional materials
Developing group tour and travel listings; promotional materials and mailings
Establish a photography archive
Organization of media announcements and events
Answering informational/media requests
Continuous maintenance of media listing and contacts (regional, national, international)
Tracking and organizing press clippings
Responsibilities during Tournament/Induction (Summer Interns, some of this will apply to Spring Interns):
Assist/work with media representatives (tv/radio/print/web) on and off site
Assist with media stories/topics for daily publication
Prepare player information/bio stats/records/match stats/general info
Assist in tournament event schedule implementation
Assist in tournament operations as directed
Track event advertising and publicity
Track and organize all press clippings: tournament and induction
Prepare daily statistical information for e-blasts and releases
Support the media credential process
RequirementsStrong oral and written communication skills are required
Ability to be flexible and to adapt to the work environment and the situations that unfold
Flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends required to support events, trade shows, etc.)
Detail-oriented, hard-working, positive attitude, as well as the ability to stay positive under pressure
Ability to manage multiple projects
Ability to work well with other interns and staff
Interns are accepted year-round. The focus of the work and time commitment required will be somewhat dictated by the time of the year.
Fall Semester: 15 - 20 hours per week, flexible to work around intern’s schedule (ITHF is willing to be flexible with more or less hours depending on the student’s course requirements.)
Spring Semester: 20 hours per week, flexible to work around intern’s schedule (ITHF is willing to be flexible with more or less hours depending on the student’s course requirements.) Additional hours may be necessary beginning May 1. Should a Spring Intern have interest in continuing through the summer in order to gain the experience of seeing the tournament through completion, this may be arranged if it is mutually agreeable.
Summer: Beginning mid-May and running through August 20; Must be available daily from June 2 – July 15; Must be willing to work nights and evenings; ITHF can be flexible on start and end dates, but requires strong commitment during peak tournament season of June 2 – July 15.
