To get started, log in to your Internships.com student account and find the ‘My Tools’ box on the left side of the home screen. (It’s right below ‘My Internships.’) Choose ‘Cover Letters’ from within that box. Then, click ‘Create New Cover Letter’ to start the process.
Now you’re in a template of all the basic parts of a standard cover letter, starting with the header. The first box, however – ‘Name of Cover Letter’ – won’t appear on the final printed version. Just pick a name that will identify this form in your list of saved cover letters if you need to come back for it later.
For your Company Contact Person, you normally want to list the same person you’re addressing the letter to. It’s always much better to address your letter to a specific person, but if you can’t find this information online and the listing specified no phone inquiries, “hiring manager” is probably the most acceptable substitute.
In the main body, our QuickBuild formatter works by guiding you on which topics to address in order. You can adhere very closely to our example text if you’d like, or you can write something completely original. (If you’re just using QuickBuild to make your letters look pretty, you can write a romantic soliloquy to Rihanna for all we care.) We figured this was the best way to give you assistance without taking away any flexibility.
When you’re done, hit ‘Save and Review’ to add this entry to your list of saved cover letters. Don’t worry about the sign-off: We’ll automatically attach your registered name to the end of the letter. So if you’ve been treating your profile like an Oregon Trail headstone (or worse, TYPING IN ALL CAPS), you might want to reconsider your approach.
