Sometimes, it’s easier to do a great job when you know how the other side sees you. In this article, you’re going to learn what happens when you apply to an internship on this site: Where your application goes, and what it looks like from an employer’s point of view.
When you’ve put the finishing touches on your profile/resume and applied to an internship listing, your application immediately gets sent to the employer’s Internships.com inbox. The next time that employer logs in, they’ll see a number at the top right of their screen that tells them how many unread applications they’ve received.

If they click a link to their inbox, your application will appear bolded at the top of their message list – that is, of course, if there aren’t any newer applications sent in.
The first thing an employer sees when they click on your application is the Personal Message you typed into the pop-up window on the Apply screen. Beneath that, we show your full resume just as it appeared on your editing page. (Note that while employers can’t see some of your contact details when they’re simply browsing your listing, they can see ALL of it once you’ve applied.) Any files you attached to your resume can be downloaded at the bottom.

After they’ve reviewed your materials, employers choose whether to view other applicants, print your resume for future reference or contact you with a personal message. If you’re contacted and have the right notifications enabled, you'll know immediately with an e-mail, text message or Facebook post.
If I make changes to my profile after I send my resume to an employer, will the employer see those changes?
Yes. The resume you send employers isn’t a snapshot. It represents exactly the way your resume looks at the moment they read it – NOT when you sent it.
Do employers receive my application as soon as I send it?
Yes, if they check their e-mail regularly. The message appears in their Internships.com inbox instantly, and we send a summary of the application and link to their inbox to employer’s e-mail.
How will I know if my application was read?
The short answer is that you won’t. Employers can categorize e-mails that they’ve already read, but we don’t share that information out of respect for the employers. Always have a backup plan if you haven’t heard back from the internship you really want, but also be patient – some companies take a long time to evaluate potential intern hires before they contact anyone.
