Description

Ying Compestine, a renowned children's literature author and businesswoman, is looking for an editorial assistant intern.

This is an unpaid internship with an 8-month commitment requirement.

Ying is one of the best mentors you will ever have if you want to get into the publishing or film industries. As an agent-less writer, she handles the business side of her writing career as well as the creative side. In addition to publishing, a few of her books are in the process of being adapted into movies, TV shows, and VR games. She also has well-established connections with many publishing areas in both West and East coast, so you will be in good hands after!

After 6 months of working as her intern, Ying will edit her interns' writing and guide the intern in the publishing world. She will also help and guide her intern with post-grad job searches. With this internship, you will learn all aspects of the publishing and film world, especially the business aspect.

She is in the East Bay so commuting is easy by BART.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include drafting emails to movie studios, editors, and agents on behalf of the author, managing the author's schedule, organizing tour photos, and updating the author's social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Wordpress). May be required to accompany the author to public events.

Requirements

Strong grammar and organization skills required. Interest in video and computer game production and English major a plus. Skilled with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and video editing. Familiar with Gmail, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn) and technology (smartphone, tablet). If the intern finds that they are lacking in any of these skills, they are expected to learn on their own time. Graduate Students and Seniors preferred. Applicants must be in college or recently graduated. Knowledge of Chinese Pinyin is a plus. Must submit a cover letter stating why you would be a good fit for the job and be able to commute to Lafayette two-three times a week.
