May Survey Results: Do You Have a Summer Internship?

The Chegg Internships COVID-19 Support Center has been up and running for a few weeks now, and during that time, things have continued to change rapidly. We wanted to know how this (temporary) new normal has impacted your summer plans, so over the past month, we’ve asked visitors, “What’s the status of your summer internship?”
Since then, we’ve heard from over 300 Chegg Internships users. The takeaway? You are most definitely not alone if you don’t have a summer internship.
The majority of respondents are either waiting to find out or have already had everything they applied to canceled.
If you’re in the “waiting” group, check out ismyinternshipcancelled.com for a crowd-sourced list of internship info from over 500 companies. But keep in mind that only some company information is verified, so we can’t vouch for accuracy.
Nearly half of respondents are dealing with internship cancellations. Many companies have struggled to adjust their internship programs in a virtual world, so they’ve canceled them altogether. If you’re in the internship or job cancellation category, check out our tips on next steps here.
Next up, the fifth of respondents who didn’t even try this summer. All we can say is we get it. This is an emotionally draining time, and competition is fierce. Just keep in mind that there are still some great internship opportunities out there. And luckily, there are plenty of other things to fill your time this summer, from freelancing to micro-internships.
Finally, there’s the clear minority: students who have an internship. If you’re among the lucky few who still have an internship, make the most of the experience by brushing up on how to work from home.
