If you’re interested in a career path in Publishing and/or Marketing, this internship will equip you with hands-on agency experience while simultaneously expanding your knowledge of the ever-evolving book publishing industry and introducing you to a network of companies and agents who work both directly and tangentially with publishers and creatives.


We are a team who is passionate about making good things happen for our clients. We are looking for interns interested in client management, marketing, business administration, and book publishing and those who want to learn by doing, are self-starters, detail oriented, and possess a sense of urgency and solid writing skills. Sense of humor and understanding of how to be a team player are essential. Experience with Google Drive and Salesforce are a plus, but not necessary.


Through hands-on experience with client projects, you will learn a variety of skills including effective communication, CRM and project management software, data entry, marketing research and support, and more.

 

Intern responsibilities include: 

  • New Prospect Research and Project Review
  • Conduct in-depth review of prospective client inquiries including early research into prospect’s book/project, bio/credentials, online platform, and more.
  • Once familiarized with Smith’s suite of services and referral partners, provide suggestions on next steps and draft responses, including identification of potential service offerings and project collaborators.
  • Service Provider/Partner Support
  • Support the intake, data management, and workflow of Smith’s partner-sponsored services within already established systems
  • Campaign/Account Preparation
  • Prepare internal team notes to support the successful transition from qualified prospect to active client
  • Manage data entry for campaign wrap-up reports 
  • Special Marketing Projects Support
  • Support in vetting Smith’s annual scholarship essay submissions
  • Provide research and support related to Smith’s annual volunteer initiatives
  • Conduct research into key industry trade shows and strategic in-person opportunities
  • Additional support to the business development + marketing teams as necessary 

Required graduation year

2021 - 2025

Requirements

  • $20 per day stipend provided during internship. School credits can also be provided, if applicable.
  • We prefer to have our interns available three days per week for 6-8 hours per day. Those days are flexible to your schedule.
  • You will be asked to use your own laptop and cell for any internship communication.
