Outreach Warrenville is a multi-purpose community service agency, serving residents of the greater Warrenville area. Services provided include individual and family therapy, consultation, and referral services, case management, community education services, mentoring, and youth development programs.
Program: Quest Program
The Quest program is an after-school program for middle school-age youth from Warrenville and the surrounding communities. The program serves approximately 30 students with the goal to ensure that all participants are successful in their school life. Daily activities include time for completing homework, life skills instruction, community service activities, free time, and daily homeroom time. Program staff works closely with the participant’s school day classroom teachers. Quest also provides a family education program that includes activities designed to give parents and youth the skills to become more effective family units.
Responsibilities/Opportunities: The intern will be an integral part of the Quest team and will be responsible for providing tutoring in a variety of subjects, developing relationships with individual middle school participants, and assisting with the creation, development, refinement, and implementation of life skills lessons and materials, presenting family education activities, planning and implementing mentoring activities and field trips, tracking participant progress using report cards, parent and teacher reports and attending weekly staff meetings. Additional opportunities are available for MA/MSW level interns.
The intern will learn classroom management techniques and discipline strategies, curriculum development skills, as well as research, writing, and presentation skills. The intern will receive experience in the overall working of a Christian, community-based youth development program and will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, environmental, economic, and other issues that impact “at-risk” youth.
