Our Programs team is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join them this fall as we head into our busiest time of the year! Support in the implementation of our Precious Gift program which serves thousands of children annually with brand new holiday gifts, while also working on coordinating our giveARTS and giveSPORTS Skills Camps and Opportunity Funds. As an intern in this position you will learn valuable skills around nonprofit programming, maintaining agency partner relationships, volunteer management, and event coordination all while getting real world experience at a local nonprofit.  


Position Reports to: Programs Coordinator, Sierra Esparza.         

 

Internship Description:

The Programs Intern will have the opportunity to assist with planning and implementation of

A Precious Child Programs. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support in coordinating seasonal A Precious Child Agency Partners. This includes processing requests, fulfilling orders and maintaining relationships with seasonal Agency Partners.
  • Assist in planning, researching, and executing all aspects of the giveSPORTS and giveARTS Skills Camps. giveSPORTS and giveARTS Skills Camps are one-day long events to provide children the opportunity to engage in a new skill.
  • Assist Programs Coordinator in processing individual and group applications for assistance for educational essentials and extra-curricular enrichment through A Precious Child’s Edussentials, giveSPORTS and giveARTS Opportunity Funds.
  • Conduct follow-up and outreach with clients and Agency Partners in regards to A Precious Child’s Individual and Group Opportunity Fund applications.
  • Support Programs team in all aspects of seasonal programs (Fill A Backpack, giveSPORTS Equipment Drive, and Precious Gift). This includes working in a warehouse setting to help fill backpacks, sort holiday gifts, etc.
  • Assist in overseeing seasonal program volunteers by supporting and managing small groups during daily volunteer shifts.  
  • Support in all Programs Specific Events such as Sports Skills Camps, Distribution Events, and tabling events.

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experienced undergraduate or graduate student in relevant field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, flexibility, collaborative skills and able to multi-task and works well with people.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people and show sensitivity to individual differences.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with other staff members, volunteers and clients.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of A Precious Child and the children and families we serve.
  • Must be able to pass background check.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional weekends and holidays.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 30 pounds as well as stand and be physically active for long periods of time.

 

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week.

 

Compensation: This position is an unpaid internship. Students are encouraged to apply for academic credit.
