Art Assistant and Project Manager

Branded Arts is seeking interns who want to gain first-hand experience in the Los Angeles art community and exposure to a variety of art mediums. Through orientation, discussion lunches, meetings, and various tasks and activities, the intern will gain knowledge of many aspects of the arts field. The intern will expand upon their training and work to apply their knowledge and skills in professional ways.

The curatorial intern will work directly with members of the Branded Arts team to assist with art projects, presentations, research, and much more.

This 8-16 week internship will commence based on availability.

Branded Arts is committed to a diverse workforce and to providing training for the next generation of art world professionals.

Areas of Support 

The curatorial intern will actively participate and perform duties in the following functional areas:

• Assist the Branded Arts team in activating the public art projects

• Prospective project research.

• Writing and editing copy for various projects, including research reports.

• Assist with finding and/or developing content for the Branded Arts website.

• Assist with partner support. The needs of our partner venues vary, and this will require flexibility and problem-solving.

Meeting attendance

• Attend staff department meetings

• Collaborate with curators, project managers, and others

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

• Interest in Contemporary art

• Must have a form of reliable transportation

• Must maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information

The Department of Labor outlines the federal laws that determine whether an unpaid internship is legal. According to federal internship laws, an employer must meet the following criteria:

1. The intern is aware that they will not be receiving payment for their work
2. The intern will perform duties that are similar to the training they would receive in an educational institution
3. The internship is associated with the intern’s schooling or degree through integrated coursework
4. The work that the intern performs must not interfere with any academic commitments or the academic calendar
5. The internship only lasts while it’s beneficial to the intern in their education
6. The intern does not displace other employees, and the work they do provides significant educational benefits
7. There is no requirement that the intern has to be hired at the end of the internship.
