This unpaid internship for a Master's in Counseling or Social Work is a hands-on, learning opportunity designed to provide students with practical and real-world experience with an emphasis on client-centered therapy. Students will be given the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge, enhance their practical skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of working with diverse populations. 


Please note we have two main offices. Our main office in 2755 Churchroad primarily works with the general population, whereas our 31 West Downer Place Office provides a safe, open space for LGBTQ+ Clients.

Key Components:

  • Direct Client Interaction: Interns will work directly with clients under the supervision of licensed professionals. This may involve conducting counseling sessions, providing support, and assisting in developing treatment plans.
  • Observation and Shadowing: Interns will observe experienced practitioners in action, gaining insights into different therapeutic techniques, assessment methods, and intervention strategies.
  • Case Management: Interns will actively participate in case management, including documentation, progress notes, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Professional Development: Interns will engage in regular supervision and reflective sessions with a designated supervisor. This fosters personal and professional growth, as well as the opportunity to discuss challenges and receive guidance.
  • Cultural Competence: The internship emphasizes working with diverse populations, fostering an understanding of cultural, social, and economic factors that influence clients' lives and well-being.
  • Ethical Considerations: Interns will learn to navigate ethical dilemmas and adhere to professional standards while providing services to clients.
  • Setting Diversity: Internships may take place in a variety of settings, such as community mental health centers, schools, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, or nonprofit organizations. This exposure allows students to explore different environments and populations.
  • Supervision: Each intern will be assigned a licensed supervisor who will provide guidance, evaluate progress, and facilitate a constructive learning experience.
