The intern in this role will have the opportunity to work remotely and in-person with our communications staff to:

  • Track media coverage of Association experts and identify top journalists covering our issues;
  • Maintain active contact lists with journalists, Capitol Hill staff, and others;
  • Target emerging audiences through existing social media channels;
  • Assist with the planning, execution, and follow-up of the ACA 50th Anniversary Meeting (June 2), and other events;
  • Post informative content and updates to the ArmsControl.org website;
  • Research and track data related to Arms Control Today;
  • Carry out other tasks assigned by staff.

This intern will be expected to work at the DC office at least one day per week. Some work may also be done remotely.

Requirements

  • Have completed or be working toward a college degree, preferably in a related
  • field (e.g., Public Policy, Marketing, International Affairs). Students pursuing advanced degrees are also encouraged to apply.
  • Be an effective communicator, both written and oral.
  • Have experience writing in multiple styles and voices (e.g., social media, blog posts, news summaries).
  • Be self-motivated and detail-oriented, have good organizational skills, be able to prioritize and multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (required). Familiarity with HTML and Canva is a plus.

Through our public education and media programs and our flagship journal, Arms Control Today, we provide policymakers, the press, and the interested public with authoritative information, analysis, and commentary on arms control proposals, negotiations and agreements, and related national security issues. In addition to regular press briefings that the Arms Control Association holds on major arms control developments, our staff provides commentary and analysis on a broad spectrum of issues for journalists and scholars both in the United States and abroad.
