Position Description Job Summary and Scope : As a Distribution Operations Intern at Veritiv you will take an active part in the daily operations of a multi-million dollar distribution center. You will receive robust training and development through a mix of classroom learning, on-the-job training and mentorship from your leadership team. You will learn how Veritiv distribution operates and runs efficiently in three areas of operations - Shipping and Receiving, Inventory, and Delivery/Transportation . In addition the candidate will also be involved with a facility consolidation at our new Burlington, NJ location. Job Responsibilities: Analytics Analyze slotting in the warehouse for optimal picking and putaway efficiencies. Review customer stratificaiton by account and balance that with service. Analyze pick parameters in the WMS to optimize picking efficiencies. Participate in Cost Improvement Programs (CIP) and make recommendations to site leaders. Shipping and Receiving Learn to schedule and facilitate inbound receiving of freight and product. Facilitate distribution of order selection to hourly workforce; aid in ensuring accuracy of outbound orders. Answer phone calls regarding delivery, scheduling, shipping, and respond or forward to appropriate department. Process paperwork after freight has been shipped, delivered, or picked up. Provide support for efficient and orderly move into new facility in Burlington NJ. Inventory Learn to maintain accurate system and physical inventory balances. Perform daily cycle counts to maintain the ongoing integrity of inventory. Assist with product identification and location inquires; make approved inventory adjustments to add modify or delete inventory. Reconcile physical and system records for product damaged by warehouse operations. Review open customer order requirements against on-site inventory balances. Identify and obtain proper documents for inbound shipments, damaged merchandise, customer returns. Delivery and Transportation Learn to investigate shipping issues to determine a solution to ensure freight can be moved in a timely manner. Aid in review and management of driver records, transportation safety and compliance data. Assist in load planning and learn to prepare and plan daily utilization of resources to ensure consistent and efficient delivery Required Skills : (List specific skills: technical skills, interpersonal skills, abilities, etc.) Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential. Good interpersonal and conflict management skills are essential. Excellent organizational, time management and customer relations skills are required. Strong problem solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks are required. Proven leadership experience, ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment. The confidence and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment An entrepreneurial drive and business acumen. Required Experience/Education : (List years of experience, education/ certification (minimum and preferred), prior required experience, etc. Identify specific tools or equipment used to perform the job.) High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Rising junior or senior currently enrolled in a 4 year degree program - preferably in business, logistics, operations management, or supply chain. PC proficient in Windows based software programs. Ability to develop proficiency with company computer system is essential. Ability to have direct, candid and productive conversations around performance. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements : (Describe any unusual working conditions, such as extreme temperatures, heights, hazardous materials, etc. State percentage of time spent traveling each month, if any.) Ability to relocate and work a flexible work schedule depending on business needs. A portion of the incumbent's job responsibilities will require PC work that involves the continuous use of the fingers, hands, wrists, and sitting for frequent periods of time. The incumbent is required to talk, see and hear. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Warehouse environment: Frequent exposure to noise, damage to clothing, and potential minor accident hazards.
