The purpose of this position is to educate and gain experience in the duties outlined below: Supports Salt Lake City's Business Development Team and Deputy Director with the coordination and overseeing of the United Nations Civil Society event being hosted in Salt Lake City. Projects will be assigned on an as-needed-bases by the Deputy Director and Special Projects Coordinator. This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the students benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the interns city supervisor. Responsibilities Attends all events related meetings. Takes minutes and tracks deliverables resulting from those meetings. Conducts research on assigned issues, performs analysis, and assesses legislative, fiscal, and political impacts of public policy issues. Articulates and generates decision paths, and prepares formal written findings and recommendation for consideration and action by department/division administration. Facilitates meetings with city departments, diverse groups from the community, other governmental agencies, and consultants to obtain further insight and information necessary to negotiate a balanced resolution to issues and achieve established project goals/objectives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Current enrollment in an accredited college or university business administration, public administration, public policy, or other related program. 3+ completed years required. Strong desire to learn along with professional drive. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent knowledge of MS Office and preferred experience in Microsoft Project. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups and people, including elected officials, department officials, staff, and community representatives. Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision, self-reliance, and dependability PREFERRED: Completion of 3+ years of college or university credit. Students pursuing a Masters degree are preferred. Knowledge of government operations, processes, and public policy analysis is a plus. Knowledge of Salesforce is strongly preferred.
