Kenall has a paid internship opportunity available for a Manufacturing Engineer Intern to work full time hours during the summer. Working within our Manufacturing Engineering Department, the Manufacturing Engineer Intern will develop an understanding for manufacturing processes. You will work alongside our manufacturing engineers to develop methods, tools and documentation to support lean manufacturing in a world class manufacturing engineering department that promotes continuous improvement. RESPONSIBLITIES: Under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineers, you will learn the field of their discipline and gain valuable hands-on-experience on the following responsibilities: * Work closely with shop employees to promote ongoing continuous improvement of manufacturing methods, systems and controls * Conduct time studies, perform line balancing, implement workflow improvements and assist with the designing of fixtures, jigs and carts * Assist in updating work instructions, 3D printing and day to day engineering activities regarding quality, production, and manufacturing * Support production departments by working with the manufacturing engineers to minimize downtime of production lines by creatively solving problems and making decisions that will not affect product quality * Respond to requests to assist assembly production lines in keeping the lines running while producing quality product * Determine when to escalate response to next level of support, e.g. Manufacturing Engineer, Design Engineer, Quality, Production Supervisor, Maintenance * Verify defective material when encountered on the line; Coordinate production in process inspection process with Quality dept. REQUIREMENTS: * Must be pursuing a degree in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering * Ability to read job documentation, count, and perform basic math accurately including fractions * Capable of using hand and pneumatic assembly tools, tape measures to a precision of 1/32 inch, calipers,etc. * Previous intern experience and/or working knowledge of electrical circuits related to lighting, sheet metal design, manufacturing methods, incandescent, fluorescent, and HID lighting fixture operation, circuits, electrical components, reflector design, schematics, and/or related options and accessories is a plus * Solidworks experience (or other 3D modeling software) preferred * Excellent capabilities in Microsoft Office Suite * Must be flexible to perform overtime duties or adjust schedule when required Committed to advancing the state of lighting, Kenall is an established organization with a proven track record of excellence and great corporate culture.
