With an enrollment over 15,800 students, Cal State East Bay is recognized as a regionally engaged and globally oriented university with a strong commitment to academic innovation, student success, engaged and service learning, diversity, and sustainability.DEPARTMENT STATEMENT:Student Health and Counseling Services is to provide basic medical, mental health and wellness services to Cal State East Bay students, and to assist students in achieving and maintaining an optimal state of health, so they may achieve their academic and career goals.ABOUT THE POSITION:The Associate Counselor, under the supervision of the Director of Counseling Services and their Clinical Supervisor, provides intake assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term individual and couples counseling to students of the university.i The incumbent works collaboratively with counseling team and medical staff to help students maintain optimum mental and physical health.i The Associate Counselor may also provide group counseling and outreach presentations to the campus community in partnership with licensed clinical staff.iWork for Associate Counselors in this classification is typically focused on providing clinical services and participating in professional development and training activities.i As counselors gain experience, additional duties in the areas of outreach and consultation may be added.Associate Counselors have completed their graduate degrees in counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work, and need to gather hours of supervised clinical experience toward licensure.i Associates receive one hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision each week, as well as monthly professional development trainings.iThis is a temporary, part-time (0.60 time-base) position through May 8, 2020, with the possibility of reappointment for a maximum of 2 years. This position works three days a week and is required to work on Thursdays, for a total of 24 hours per week.RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical services:Conduct intake interviews and provide initial clinical assessment. Provide short-term individual, group, and couples counseling, and crisis intervention as needed.Professional development and training:Participate in individual and group supervision and professional staff development.
