Rail Operations Intern Salary See Position Description Location Gresham, OR Job Type Non-Union Temporary Department Transportation (Non Union) Job Number 19-00058 Closing 4/26/2019 5:00 PM Pacific Description Summary Description: Seeking college students studying Business Management, transportation, planning, statistics, economics, data science, accounting or related field, or a related discipline to support TriMet's Rail Operations Department. Under the direction of TriMet's Manager of Transportation within the Rail Operations unit, the intern will be responsible for performing various tasks associated with Routine Rail Operations and Rail Special Projects pertaining to the MAX Light Rail system. TriMet has 5 MAX Light Rail Lines with 97 stations, and 147 vehicles to provide 40 million trips per year. This Internship is an excellent opportunity to build skills, gain experience, and develop connections with industry professionals. Intern will have access to TriMet's Learning and Development Program for an opportunity to build competencies in management, professional development, organizational citizenship, computer skills, and leadership skills. Intern may be asked to perform/observe duties in the field, which would require use of TriMet provided Personal Protective Equipment. Office/Location : TriMet Rail Operations at 2222 NW Eleven Mile Ave., Gresham OR, 97030. Other TriMet facilities as needed. Work Hours : Approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Work schedules are developed in corroboration with TriMet supervisor with focus on completing tasks while maintaining flexibility. Duration : 3 months Starting Date: Flexible. Between the months of May July. Ending Date : Flexible. Responsibilities May Include: Learn about the daily operations of Portland's MAX light rail System to learn how to manage it. Create, update and analyze Excel spreadsheet content for employee performance data (attendance, Rule violations, On-Time Performance and Customer service). Write, edit, and design employee notifications, correspondence on performance of rules, procedures, and instructions. Learn Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and TriMet standards to provide support for ongoing projects including Rule violations analysis, Signal Audit, scheduling, on time performance, safety performance, and customer service performance some tasks may require going into the field. Rail Technology use and upgrading of capabilities. Work closely with project stakeholders to ensure tasks and deliverables are completed on-time. Utilize various internal document management platforms to support processes such as attendance or rule violations. Minimum Qualifications: Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on any of the following fields of study: Business Management, transportation, planning, statistics, economics, data science or accounting or related field. Must be computer literate; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write for and interact with people at various levels of the organization including employees and managers. Self-direction, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet strict deadlines. Must be flexible with a desire to work with multiple stakeholders on complex projects in a fast- paced environment. Rate of Pay: $16.00 hourly, plus free transit pass during internship.
