The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The ideal candidate will provide assistance with research and data collection, budget and financial analysis, City-wide projects and presentations, and statistical reports. DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Research and data collection for City projects and/or assignments. - Assists in drafting, proofing, and preparing memos, reports, and analyses, as assigned. - Budget and financial analysis for department and/or division budgets as well as project budgets, as assigned. - Review, update, and/or make recommendation for improved practices and procedures for various work efforts. - Proactively meet with, and assist, divisions with various work efforts. - Attend various weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings, as assigned. Education and Experience If you are a current or recent undergraduate college student or graduate studying Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Political Science, Public Administration, or a closely related field, and are interested in gaining meaningful hands-on work experience at the local government level, this program may be for you. Knowledge and Abilities - General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations - Reliable and dependable with the ability to work independently and as part of a team - Research techniques, survey methods and data collection - Excellent customer service and presentation skills - Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities - Excellent oral and written communications - Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community - Computer experience, including Outlook, Word and Excel Additional Information An online completed City application is required to apply for this position.
