Your Opportunity Stantecs Buildings group in Detroit is a 50-person group that provides Architecture, Interior Design, Planning and Buildings Engineering services with a long history and deep commitment to higher education. This office additionally serves as the engineering hub across the buildings practice. We are seeking a passionate Summer Architectural Engineering Intern to perform a variety of selected tasks which may include Revit design, calculations, and field work. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken mechanical or structural engineering design type courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a number of exciting local projects. Assignments are meant to develop knowledge and skills within the buildings engineering discipline and will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer. Opportunities for our Intern include educational lunch and learns/seminars, participation in internal office design presentations and dialogues, and project site visits. We are seeking a full-time summer Intern join our team from approximately April to August. The Internship is for 40 hours a week during the summer break with potential to continue on a part-time basis after August. Your Key Responsibilities Perform field work (evaluation of existing sites) as directed by senior engineer/designer. Production of CADD drawings and Revit designs. Participation in mechanical design including building load calculations, ductwork and equipment layouts. Performs basic calculations to analyze and design individual building components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions. Works with architectural, interior, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer. Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity. Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff. Your Capabilities and Credentials Proficient in CADD with basic understanding of Revit and AutoCad, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool. Understanding of architectural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting. Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from senior engineers/designers. A keen sense of creativity and initiative, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated, ability to take ownership of tasks and to work with minimal supervision. Eager to learn with strong listening and critical thinking and problem solving skills. Education and Experience Working toward a Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. Previous internship experience a plus. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
