JOB SUMMARY: The IP Network Apprentice is responsible for the monitoring, implementation, and maintenance of EATELs packet switching and Internet server networks. This position supports EATELs Internet product suite including dial-up and broadband access, Email, and Web/Mail/DNS Hosting. The IP Network Apprenticeship role is closely supervised and mentored working on projects of progressive complexity. This role will work with the Network Engineering team and Operations Team to provide oversight to EATELs Internet product suite meeting the needs of end users and customers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include but are not limited to) Monitors, implements, and Maintains EATELs packet switching and Internet server networks Monitors network equipment with SNMP tools such as Cacti and/or Zenoss Maintains documentation of system configurations and network changes Installs and tests equipment upon arrival; returns faulty equipment to manufacturer for repair or replacement and maintains all records of such transactions Other duties as assigned Maintains and Retains satisfied EATEL customers Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships Provides Internet technical support as needed to the Customer Support Department Participates in supporting the timely completion of service orders Produces periodic reports and special studies as directed by the Manager of Engineering KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Basic knowledge of IP networking including IPv4 addressing Are there any special skills needed to adequately perform this job? For example, supervision, computer skills, typing, wpm, etc. , subnetting, subnetting, dynamic/static assignment, DHCP, ARP, and IP routing protocols including RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF; and concepts like VLAN trunking, VoIP, and IMS Basic knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating system including the installation, configuration, and maintenance of mail, web, DNS, DHCP, NFS, MySQL and LDAP database, and load balancing servers Basic understanding of Cisco Internetworking Operating System (IOS); able to configure and maintain Cisco routers QUALIFICATIONS & PREREQUISITES Required: High School Diploma 1 or more years of IP Network or LINUX server Administration experience Preferred: Experience in telecommunications industry BS/BA Degree preferably in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science / Engineering, ISDS, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
