Background: Training Programs in Epidemiology & Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) is a global network of field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) founded in June 1997 with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Foundation Merieux. With a secretariat based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, TEPHINET is the only global network of field epidemiology training programs, spanning multiple regional networks, sub-regional programs, and national programs around the world. Overall, TEPHINET comprises 71 programs in more than 100 countries. Currently, there are more than 12,000 FETP graduates around the world. TEPHINETs mission is to empower and mobilize a competent field epidemiology workforce for all people through standardized training, experiential learning, training program quality improvement, mentoring, and knowledge exchanges in order to connect epidemiologists better, faster and with quality across the globe. TEPHINETs vision is that all people are protected by a field epidemiology workforce capable of detecting and responding to health threats. TEPHINET is seeking a Communications Intern to assist with communications projects. Under the guidance of the Communications Manager, the Communications Intern will support the development of program and event websites, newsletters and reports; assist in the creation of communications materials for conferences and events; collect and categorize public health resources and project information for sharing via communications channels; and perform administrative and other duties as assigned. The Communications Intern may have the opportunity to contribute to specific projects depending on skills and interest. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a college or university offering a four year degree. Completion of freshman year or higher and in good academic standing. College transcripts required as part of interview process. Additional Details Primary Responsibilities: Assist in the development of web copy and publications Assist in collecting information (through surveys, web research, and file searches) for inclusion in various communications materials Update and maintain databases of communications assets Assist in creating communications materials for TEPHINET conferences Provide support in graphics, photography and video production if candidate has these skills Copy/edit documents written by native and non-native English speakers Perform other duties as assigned Timeframe: The ideal candidate would be able to start ASAP. The position is envisioned to run through August 2019, but the actual end date could be later if funds and availability allow. Availability: The candidate should be available to come into the office for at least 20 hours per week. Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a college or university offering a four-year degree in English, communications, marketing, public health or a related field. Completion of freshman year or higher and in good academic standing. College transcripts and writing samples required as part of the interview process. A writing assessment may be given as part of the interview process.
