The Special Events Intern will be responsible for providing administrative support to the development, communications, and events teams while following an existing work plan. The intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the behind-the-scenes aspects of event production processes, communication, business administration, special events management and strategic partnerships. The position is perfectly suited for someone who would like to experience the creative side of providing much need social services to the community. Responsibilities: The Special Events Intern will have important ongoing projects assigned to them at the start of the internship, as well as many other day-to-day responsibilities including, but not limited to: * Assisting with the creative and technical logistics of the event * Preparing and sending, solicitation letters and thank you/acknowledgement letters * Researching and managing updates to donor database * Researching potential celebrity guest speakers, honorees and entertainment * Working closely with staff to organize, compare, record and track income * Assisting the staff with administrative duties and special projects as needed * Assist with the solicitation of program journal ads including making in-store visits to past and potential donors * Liaison between the events team and vendors including but not limited to printers, venue, decor, awards, etc Qualifications: * Professional and responsible manner with all staff and volunteers * Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with the ability to become adept with other computer database programs, including Raisers Edge * Strong organizational, multi-tasking, written and verbal communication skills * Ability to prioritize many projects and meet deadlines; attention to details * Ability to work in a team and give input on both the logistical and creative sides of event planning * Demonstrated interest in any of the following areas: healthcare in underserved communities, HIV/AIDS, LGBT, Harlem Outcomes: * Intern will gain experience in all aspects of producing and promoting gala events. * Intern will gain a better understanding of fundraising and donor stewardship. * Intern will gain knowledge of budgeting events and tracking revenue and expense performance. * Interns will gain administrative experience applicable to entry-level positions. Other: * This is a stipend internship. School credit is available upon request * This internship is based out of our office in Harlem located at 290 Lenox Avenue * Internship will run from February 2019 to November 2019 * Internship is part-time and approximately 10-15 hours per week.
