Food and Nutrition Intern CAPI USA - Brooklyn Center, MN4.5 10 hours agoInternshipEstimated: $16,000 - $20,000 a year Apply Now Skills * Leadership Experience * Nonprofit Experience * Driver's License Position: CAPI Food and Nutrition Intern Job Type: Temporary, minimum of 3-4 months Location: 5930 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429 Closing Date: Open until filled Organization Summary: Established in 1982, CAPIs mission is to guide immigrants and refugees in their journey toward self-determination and social equality. CAPI employs 30 diverse staff who annually engage more than 5,000 people in a growing continuum of basic need, economic opportunity and civic engagement programs and services via two multi-service centers located in South Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center. CAPI began as a food shelf and continues to serve several hundreds of families each month. Each summer, CAPI hosts Fresh Produce Distributions community-centered events designed to provide the community with an additional source of fresh fruits and vegetables. Other Food and Nutrition programs include SNAP assistance and enrollment, community gardens, and on-site nutrition classes. Position Description: CAPIs Food and Nutrition Intern will help engage CAPI participants and community around food and nutrition programming. This position will be responsible for helping to facilitate CAPIs Fresh Produce Distributions, attending community events to provide information on CAPIs food and nutrition services, and to conduct daily operations of CAPIs client-choice food shelf. Interns will gain useful experience working a non-profit setting and will develop skills for working cross-culturally and across organizations. Position Responsibilities (not limited to this list): * Assist the Food and Nutrition Coordinator with CAPIs food shelf programming * Organize and help facilitate CAPIs Fresh Produce Distributions every other Friday * Work closely with CAPIs Food Shelf Coordinator to complete daily operations in the food shelf * Conduct new client intakes and update client information as needed * Develop outreach materials/communications for CAPIs food and nutrition programs * Perform outreach for CAPIs Health and Human Services department * Assist with CAPIs community garden program *Position Hours: *8 10 hours a week for a minimum of three months. Start and end date are negotiable. This position may be used to fulfill academic requirements or community service hours. * * Experience and knowledge of Hunger Relief, food system, food access, and/or nutrition * Bilingual skills strongly preferred (Hmong, Vietnamese, other Asian Languages) * Ability to work both as a team member and independently with minimum supervision * Culturally competent able to work effectively and respectfully with people of many cultures, nationalities, and groups * Ability to manage time effectively and multitask * Strong communication and leadership skills * Must complete HIPAA training and stay in compliance with data privacy laws * Must have a valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation Job Type: Internship Experience: * Food/Nutrition: 1 year (Preferred) License: * Driver's License (Required)
