Practice areas available at APAI are diverse and include, but are not limited to, the following: * Water/Wastewater System Design * Water/Wastewater Treatment Processes * Conveyance System Design * Water Resource Planning * Water Reuse * Water Quality Studies * Regulations & Water Permitting * Civil and/or Structural Infrastructure Design * Tenure and the demonstration of competency of skills in a practice area allow an individual to advance within our company, as well as advance in his/her career. Skills required for the advancement of an Engineer-in-Training relate not only to technical skills but involve skills in management and business development as well. All three skills are important components for an E/S career in the consulting engineering industry. APAI is not only a strong advocate of professional development, but encourages young engineers in their first step into career experience, which is the Internship. We have open internship availabilities with the following technical teams: * Austin Civil Design Team * Austin Dry Utilities Team * Corpus Christi Civil Design Team * Dallas Conveyance Team * Fort Worth Conveyance Team * Fort Worth Treatment Design Team * Fort Worth Water Planning Team * Oklahoma City Conveyance Team * San Antonio Civil Design Team APAI seeks candidates who are innovative and creative; and capable of performing individually or on a team. These internships will support growing operations located in our Texas and Oklahoma locations. Interns are responsible for assisting with process design calculations, modeling hydraulics, and analysis for water treatment, pipeline, and storm water projects. The position may also involve assisting with creek restoration assessments, watershed protection planning and to link storm water management to water supply planning. The ideal candidate is an Engineering student currently enrolled in an Engineering curriculum and has an interest in water related projects. Some basic coursework will have already been completed. The position requires someone who is motivated, organized, hard-working, has excellent oral and written communication skills, and is capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously. The position involves the use of Excel spreadsheets, MS Word, AutoCAD and GIS to create drawings, specifications, reports, mapping and other documents. Essential Functions * Assists the Engineering Teams' staff with review and evaluation of data associated with design, analysis, and budget spreadsheets. * May include work with design calculations, modeling hydraulics, and analysis for water treatment, pipeline, and storm water projects. * May include work with hydraulics, pumps, piping, structural analysis, or geotechnical engineering. * May include work related to municipal permitting projects. Specifically, learning about drainage, transportation, or land development design concepts, as well as electric, gas, and telecommunications construction principles. * May include work related to water and wastewater design and water resource planning projects, gaining experience with planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment processes and conveyance facilities. Through these projects, the intern will learn about the regions water supply and wastewater systems. * Assists managers and engineers with proofing and editing documents. * Assists with preparation of reports and GIS mapping * Other duties as necessary within the Engineering Technical Team. Qualifications Competencies * Microsoft Office proficiency, including Excel, required * Working knowledge of Access, preferred * Working knowledge of AutoCAD, preferred * GIS Personal Qualities: Motivated and hard-working; attention to detail and ability to gather data; excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of multi-tasking on several projects. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Position Type/Expected Work Hours This is a temporary/seasonal position that is expected to work at least 40 hrs/wk. Days and hours of work are flexible during regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Positions may continue after the summer period. Travel Travel is not expected for this position's essential job duties. Qualifications * Enrolled in a Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering degree program at an ABET accredited university. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Minimum equivalent of 1-year complete. * Education course work, with a completion grade of B or higher, in a minimum of 2 of the following courses: fluid mechanics, hydraulics or hydrology, geology, geotechnical engineering or related coursework, structural analysis, water resources, water chemistry, water treatment, and/or wastewater treatment, structural analysis and chemistry. * Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Any prior experience or classwork related to the topics of hydraulics, water chemistry, technical writing, GIS, AutoCAD, construction or structural engineering, engineering economics, leading/training others and/or working with others would be considered very desirable. Work Authorization/Security Clearance Must be able to legally work in the United States without sponsorship. Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
