Communications and M&E Intern - Leadership Practice Hourly/Interns Washington, District Of Columbia Description Position: Communications and M&E Intern Reports to: Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor Location: Washington DC ABOUT IREX IREX is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to building a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world by empowering youth, cultivating leaders, strengthening institutions, and extending access to quality education and information. POSITION DESCRIPTION IREX seeks a Part Time intern to provide support to the Leadership Practice and the Mandela Washington Fellowships Communication and M&E activities. This paid position will be part-time (15-20 hours per week) beginning in May 2019 and ending in October of 2019 (specific start and end dates are flexible). IREX has a standard rate for interns of $13.25. This position is ideal for candidates looking to gain practical skills in data management, communication with a variety of stakeholders, and/or program management skills. In addition to supporting program activities, the intern will have opportunities to learn about various methods for conducting monitoring and evaluation in international development including Social Network Analysis, qualitative methods, and other tools and approaches. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Ensure data quality through cleaning and management to support Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Plan implementation. Contribute to internal indicators and external M&E systems through data consolidation and uploads. Draft bi-weekly newsletter to update key stakeholders of program activities. Support regular program reporting by researching and writing success stories and snapshots of program participants. Process payments to implementing partners and program participants. Coordinate and compile Leadership Practice monthly newsletter Coordinate Leadership Practice monthly meetings including content and logistics Other duties as assigned. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Demonstrated Excel skills (the candidate will be comfortable using formulas and pivot tables for analysis as well as charts for data visualization) and interest to learn other software tools for data management and analysis. Proven excellence in writing and editing for a variety of audiences and purposes, including reporting and marketing. Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and multi-task. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. Interest in international development and leadership development. Coursework in statistics (preferred). Experience using Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, and Mailchimp (preferred).
