As a Summer Intern for QAP, you will gain valuable professional experience in the field of civil engineering. Interns are considered an integral part of the operations staff and are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. Under guidance of senior project management, you will be assigned to teams associated with providing technical and civil engineering services for various federal and state road construction projects. Travel within Alaska area is required for this position. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Construction quality assurance of job sites - Preparation and modification of engineering drawings - Collection of production samples, including asphalt and aggregates - Creation and/or maintenance of existing technical data spreadsheets; tracking costs - Participation on design team performing basic engineering tasks, including site grading, volume estimates, and technical analyses - Assists with construction observations, reporting and materials testing and monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents - Assists in the preparation of quantity take-offs, costs estimates, engineering drawings, maps, and other related graphics as required to support project - Assists submittal review tracking process - Assists in the review of design documents and reports - Assists in preparation and processing of time entry (Heavy Jobs) - Assists with financial documentation and revisions to project documents - All job-related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: - Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working towards a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management within an accredited program - Knowledge of Civil Engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, materials testing (concrete and soils), and general civil engineering design and construction practices - Ability to read and understand construction engineering plans and drawings, including sheet references and layering - Ability to maintain confidentiality - Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own work - Experience with AutoCAD is a plus - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing - Ability to use sound judgment - Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details OR An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities QAP is an Equal Opportunity /Affirmative Action Employer dedicated to promoting diversity and maintaining a drug-free workplace.
